Task 7 Using Freytag's triangle map out the dramatic structure of a piece of film or video. Adverts, pop videos, or full feature films

Film: Batman - Dark Knight.

1. Exposition.

Protagonist: Bruce Wayne (aka Batman)

Antagonist: The Joker

Basic Conflict: The crime in Gotham city has fallen to an all-time low thanks to the vigilante
Batman. Criminals are too afraid to commit at night in case they encounter Batman. However, a new criminal enters town and takes things to the new level, breaking the boundaries that no other criminal had the guts to do. The Joker is a masochist and Batman is the sadist.

Setting: Gotham City

2. Rising Action.

Obstacles for the protagonist: The Joker is unpredictable and Batman cannot use his usually crime fighting methods to tackle his new adversary. The Joker is smart, cunning, different, he has line that says 'stop'.

3. Climax.

Batman must choose whether save his lover or the Gotham City's symbol of hope, Harvey Dent. If Harvey Dent should die, everything that Gotham City has fought for will no longer stand for nothing, however should his lover die, Bruce Wayne must live with the guilt for the rest of his life. In the end, Batman chooses to save Harvey Dent, to save the hope of the citizens' of Gotham City.

4. Falling Action.

Batman saves a bunch of people from being blown up by the Joker and captures him at the same time. However, Harvey Dent is under too much grief from the death of his lover which causes him to change. Harvey Dent seeks revenge on Batman and Commissioner Gordon, who he sees as responsible for loss of his lover. Harvey Dent is about to kill Gordon but Batman knocks down to his death.

5.Dénouement or conclusion.

Batman takes responsibility of Harvey Dent's death to protect what Harvey's represented. Gotham's only hope. For that reason he is hunted, because he can take it. As Gotham's Dark Knight!
